Champlain Submarine Tours

While Champ is away, find fun at the Lake Champlain Echo Center

While the winter months are at large and Champ awaits the coming of spring, visit the Echo Lake Aquarium for some interactive entertainment and learning about the aquatic life of Lake Champlain. Experience snakes, fish, frogs and turtles in their 2,750 gallon river community, use goggles, scraper and brush-and unearth recreated whale bones in their new dig site and meet live frogs from six continents, test your frog call tracking skills, and "morph" yourself into a frog.

The Echo Science Center is temporarily giving out free tickets, visit their site at Echo Lake Aquarium to find out how!

It's not too late to enjoy some underwater adventure! Tours run through the end of November. Have a front row seat to the aquatic life of Lake Champlain while we search for our legendary sea monster, Champ. Special rates for families and children under 2 years old.

What do residents of Lake Champlain have to say?

So far, there have been hundreds of sightings -- sometimes more than a dozen a year -- of Champ.

"There are people who say they've seen something unusual in the lake," said Lohr McKinstry, a reporter for the Press Republican, who has been writing about Champ sightings for more than 20 years. "Some sort of unusual life that shouldn't be there in Lake Champlain. Best guess would be that it is some sort of creature that possibly should be extinct."

The Champ frenzy began in the 1880s when P.T. Barnum offered $50,000 for the capture of Champ dead or alive. Hunters and fishermen came out of the woods, but no one was able to collect. As for the latest sighting, two retired FBI analysts reviewed the tape and said that it appeared authentic.
